The ancient palace of Knossos is located in the south of modern-day Heraklion near the north coast of Crete. Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and has been called Europe’s oldest city. King Minos had Daedalus construct a labyrinth, a very large maze, in which to retain his son, the Minotaur, half-man, half-bull. Daedalus also built a dancing floor for his daughter, princess Ariadne, who fell in love with Theseus and provided him with her famous “Ariadne’s string”, so that he could retrace his way out of the labyrinth of the Minotaur.
The same love of Ariadne for dance is also shared with our cover girl Antigoni, who is an accomplished professional dancer, choreographer and kinesiology teacher. Her love for dance and music led her to undertake piano and vocal lessons, in order to be able to express her art of bringing images into life, through her self-directed and choreographed theatre performances. Her years living in the UK matured her art and granted her a master’s title in Event Management from the Edinburgh Napier University, which supported her further with managing and organising physical theatre performances with her own team in various stages in Athens. Antigoni has collaborated with important directors in Greece and she is currently part of Takis Zaharatos dance crew. Moreover, Antigoni is the founder and designer of ANDIE Creations, a hand-knitted brand of garments and accessories.
