Handbags Online: The Paris Edit, the first various owner Handbags & Accessories sale at Christie’s Paris since 2017, totalled €3,663,072 / $3,817,577 / £3,218,868. The auction was sold 99% by lot and 82% of lots sold above the high estimate. This online-only sale celebrated exceptional rarities through a rich selection of the most sought-after Handbags & Accessories, attracting bidders and buyers from 40 countries, with 55% of registrants new to Christie’s.
Leading the auction, an Exceptional Black Feathers So Black Sellier Kelly 28 achieved €277,200, almost four times its low estimate. This iconic creation, offered for the first time at auction, was designed by Jean Paul Gautier in 2010 and remains one of the most desirable limited-edition pieces on the market. The sale featured a recent reinterpretation of the legendary Himalaya Kelly: an exceptional Matte White Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile Sellier Kelly 25, previously unseen on the market, which sold for €189,000.
The sale also achieved notable results for Hermès Birkin bags, including a Matte Béton, White Togo, Orange and Bleu Brume Faubourg Sellier Birkin 20, which realised €239,400; a Shiny Rouge H Porosus Crocodile Diamond Birkin 30, which achieved €126,000; a Limited Edition Barénia & Osier Picnic Birkin 25, which sold for €107,100, more than twice its low estimate; and a Matte Black Alligator Birkin 25, which realised €56,700.
The auction season continued with an exceptional Handbags & Accessories live sale at Christie’s Hong Kong on 26 November, followed by Handbags Online: The New York Edit which will be open for bidding online from 28 November to 9 December.
