Recently, at Sotheby’s Geneva, The Spirit of the Rose, the world’s largest vivid purple-pink diamond ever to appear at auction, sold for US$ 26,633,253 (CHF 24,393,000) – a world auction record for a purple-pink diamond.
Mined and cut by ALROSA – one of the world’s leading diamond producers, the 14.83-carat Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink Internally Flawless diamond was bought by an anonymous buyer, bidding over the phone. Named after a celebrated Russian ballet, the ultra-rare gem was faceted from the largest pink crystal ever mined in Russia.
The sale of The Spirit of the Rose concluded a day of extraordinary live auctions.

MAGNIFICENT JEWELS AND NOBLE JEWELS
The sale of The Spirit of the Rose was preceded by the flagship Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale which saw strong prices for white diamonds. The totality of the 11 gems on offer found a buyer and brought a combined total of CHF 8.1m (est. CHF 4.2m – 6.6m). 90% of them (10 out of 11) sold above estimate, including an 18.03-carat cushion-shaped D Colour, Flawless, Type IIa diamond set as a ring which realised CHF 1,774,500 (US$ 1,937,470 ) (Lot 191, est. CHF 1.2m – 1.4m / US$ 818,000 – 1.1m).
Noble Jewels were also high in demand, led by a Colombian emerald and diamond parure, circa 1770. Formerly in the collection of the first Marquis de Guirior (1708-1788), Viceroy of New Granada and Viceroy of Peru, the parure achieved CHF 988,000(US$1.1m) (Lot 176, est. CHF 642,000-920,000 / US$ 700,000-1,000,000).
IMPORTANT WATCHES, featuring Masterworks of Time
- A Rolex ‘Paul Newman Panda’ Daytona, Ref 6263 circa 1970 realised CHF 378,000 (US$ 412,716) (Lot 58, est. CHF 300,000 – 500,000 / US$ 330,000 – 549,000).
- Coming from the legendary “Masterworks of Time” collection, a unique gold pocket watch made by Patek Philippe in 1969 featuring an exquisite enamelled depiction of the Mont Blanc by Suzanne Rohr soared to CHF 333,900 (US$ 364,565) (Lot 1, est. CHF 100,000 – 200,000 / US$ 110,000 – 220,000).
- A unique Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Grande Complication, circa 2008 fetched CHF 315,000 (US$ 343,930) (Lot 54, est. CHF 200,000-400,000 / US$ 220,000 – 239,000)
- An F.P. Journe chronomètre à résonance, circa 2002 with power reserve indication and brass movement realised CHF 239,400 (US$ 261,386) (Lot 31, est. US$ 55,000 – 110,000 / CHF 50,000-100,000)
